George Henry Rowe (me) is an abstract artist and technologist. I explore the relationship between humans, machines and the environment through paintings, interactive and light installations, and other wall based media.
I am interested in the harmony and the tension between the digital and physical in our lives, influenced by the cultural artifacts, memories and shapes of the modern world. I work with data from sound, calculations, and movement, and explore how it can be brought into a physical creative process to add new perspectives.
As a painter, I work in the possibilities of combined human and computer creation, combining custom built digital and physical tools and traditional painting techniques. The focus is not on the technology but the intentionality. I am fascinated in how the perfection of code created work is then made imperfect when it becomes physicalised through analogue processes.
In a world where we are surrounded by algorithms and cold, digital purity, my work aims to show how messing with perfection gives rise to interest, emotion and intent.
