After Josef explores how technological and human processes converge. Specifically, it looks at how planned and and ‘perfect’ code and algorithms can change unexpectedly through the interaction of physical media when they leave a screen. Using composition and colour theory inspired by Josef Albers, this painting uses dynamic angles and repeating, fluid patterns to bring movement and nuance to the code generated patterns.
With this piece, I wanted to try creating something that felt like it was in movement, that it was changing. After reading Josef Alber’s Interaction of Colour book, it seemed right to try and juxtapose rigid shapes with flowing patterns inside, and create the feeling of light shining through it in an impossible way.
This painting was exhibited as part of the New Only:Only New group show as part of Fringe Arts Bath 2026.
